Week 4 Picks: Time to Find Out Who Oregon Really Is
For at least one week, the noise got a little quieter.
Coming off a stunning loss to Oklahoma State that sparked questions about accountability, leadership, offensive tendencies, and the overall direction of the program, Oregon responded the way most fans hoped it would: by absolutely dismantling Portland State.
The Ducks set a new Autzen Stadium scoring record, pitched a shutout, and emptied the bench in the process. For the first time this season, many highly touted freshmen, young players, and highly ranked recruits saw meaningful game action, and several of them made the most of the opportunity.
It was exactly the kind of response Oregon needed.
But it also didn’t answer the biggest question facing this football team.
How good is Oregon really?
It’s easy to feel better after hanging a historic number on an FCS opponent. The confidence is back. The vibes are better. And for a week, Duck fans got to enjoy football instead of debating it.
Still, there is a reason why so many people immediately turned their attention to this week’s matchup against USC.
Portland State was about confidence.
USC is about validation.
The Trojans represent the first real opportunity for Oregon to show whether preseason expectations were simply delayed by one bad afternoon in Stillwater, or whether those expectations were too high from the beginning.
That’s why Saturday night’s matchup in Los Angeles feels so important.
Not because Oregon beat Portland State.
But because nobody knows how much weight that performance should carry.
Was Oklahoma State simply a wake-up call that a talented team needed?
Did Oregon use last week to clean up the mistakes, communication issues, and execution problems that plagued them earlier in the season?
Or did we all just watch a talented roster do exactly what it was supposed to do against an overmatched opponent?
On Saturday night, we’ll start getting answers.
For weeks we’ve talked about potential.
This weekend we’ll learn more about reality.
And while one game won’t define the season, it may tell us whether Oregon is still capable of becoming the team many believed they were entering the year.

Tyler Extends His Lead
Once again, Tyler proved to be the closest to the actual score and earned another 2 points, extending his lead atop the standings.
At this point, everyone else might want to stop trying to predict football games and start trying to figure out how Tyler keeps doing it.
Talesofderp Calls a Perfect Weekend
A special shoutout goes to Talesofderp, who correctly picked every game on last week’s slate.
Perfect weeks don’t happen often, and when they do, they deserve recognition.
We Need More Picks!
We also saw a bit of a drop-off in participation last week.
Maybe everyone was still recovering from the Oklahoma State game.
Maybe life got busy.
Maybe some of you are trying the “load management” strategy.
Whatever the reason, let’s get those picks submitted this week.
With Oregon heading to Los Angeles for its biggest test of the season so far, Week 4 feels like the perfect opportunity to get everyone back in the action.
Good luck, and as always…
